Eviction Notice

The 'Eviction Notice' original measures 48" x 32" and the medium is oil on canvas.

In 1874, General Custer famously led a gold expedition into the Black Hills of South Dakota, where the Blackfeet warriors in this painting, resided. Unlike the Crow and other tribes who were more welcoming to whites, the Blackfeet remained hostile.

'Eviction Notice' depicts a gold prospector who has entered sacred Indian land.  The US government promised, by treaty, that white men would not enter their land.  He has been discovered by three Blackfeet warriors, who are not happy.  The era is around the 1870s when gold prospectors were beginning to evade the territory of the Blackfeet. Notice how strategically placed between the warriors and the prospector lies a stream and rock shelf, acting as a protective barrier. And don't miss the 1866 Winchester resting on the ground beside the prospector, ready to ease his fears.

Also available as a Limited-edition Canvas Print or an Open Edition Print.
